How to care for your soy candle

10th July 2020 Written by Rebekah Louise a women's health and wellness freelance writer

You're excited, you've just unwrapped your Bambu candle and naturally, you want to get the most out of it.

Bambu candles are made from 100% natural soy wax, meaning it will last around 50% longer than a paraffin candle.

So, how do you ensure that you get the maximum experience out of your candle?

Here are three tips to enjoy a longer-lasting fragrance:

1.Burning Your Candle

The first burn should be for about 2 hours or long enough for the wax to melt to the edge of the tin, which is called a full melt pool.

If a candle is extinguished before a full melt pool is created, your candle will not release its maximum scent. Also, when re-lit, the candle will only burn to the size of the burn pool when first extinguished.

Do not burn your candle for longer than 4 hours as this can cause the tin to overheat. Also the wick may move and, therefore, will not burn as well in the future.

Always place your soy candle on a flat surface and away from draughts as this may cause your candle to burn unevenly.

When the candle is lit, never leave it unattended in case of it catching curtains or soft furnishings alight. Also, keep children or pets safe and away from the open flame.

When relighting, check the wax level is no less than 1 cm. If it is, then do not relight, as the tin may overheat and the surface the candle is sitting on could be stained or burned.

Bambu soy wax candles are vegetarian and vegan-friendly.

2.Storing Your Candle

When you've finished burning the candle and the wax has cooled, place the lid back onto the candle. This will protect the wax and wick from dust which may reduce the scent and interfere with future burning.

Not lighting your candle over a long period of time can reduce the fragrance, so ensure to use your candle on a regular basis.

3.Caring for the Wick

On occasions, pieces of the wick may break off and sit in the wax and this will cause the candle to burn at a quicker rate or the piece of wick to catch fire. Please remove any debris when the candle isn't lit and has cooled down.

If you notice the wick has moved, blow out the flame, wait for the wax to cool, and then straighten the wick. You may find it helpful to use tweezers to coax the wick back into place.

A Beginner's Guide To Using Reed Diffusers

20th May 2020 Written by Rebekah Louise a women's health and wellness freelance writer

Do you want to be greeted by your favourite scent as soon as you open your front door?

Having a well-fragranced room can improve the overall sense of the quality of the home and enhances the environment.

Reed diffusers are a great way to provide rooms or spaces in your home with an ongoing scent of your choice.

Reed diffusers work by releasing the fragrance in the oil through the reeds. Here at Bambu Candles, we use fibre reeds with a porous structure, which allows the reeds to disperse a good and even amount of fragrance.

We are excited to share that we will be adding essential oil reed diffusers to our collection in the near future. So keep an eye on our website and social media to be one of the first to know when these are released.

For an added and important touch, our diffusers are presented in stylish glass bottles which add to the decor of your room.

Benefits of Using Reed Diffusers

There are several benefits of using reed diffusers, such as:

  • Diffusers are a flameless option to fragrance any room in your home, meaning that you don't have to keep your eye on them and they are ideal to use around children and pets.
  • Our fibre reeds don't clog up.
  • There is no need to flip our reeds in order to increase their shelf life.
  • Reed diffusers do not need to be plugged in or need heat to work.
  • Bambu Candles reed diffusers last between 2-3 months.
  • Our reed diffusers are presented in a beautiful glass bottle, making them a decorative and stylish piece to have on display.
  • Enjoying a scent-filled room, without needing to light a candle, turn on or light a wax melt, or use a room spray.
  • Our reed diffuser bottles come filled with oil, ready for you to insert the reeds and use.
  • Our glass bottles can be recycled.

How To Use Reed Diffusers

Using a reed diffuser is easy, however, there are a few things you should know.

  1. Place the reeds into the diffuser so the lower half of the reeds are immersed in the oil.
  2. Make sure the opening to the bottle remains sealed to avoid oil spilling and to ensure the fragrance doesn't escape.
  3. Place a dish underneath the reed diffuser to protect the surface it sits on.

There are various factors that will reduce the life of a reed diffuser, such as placing the diffuser next to a window or air-conditioning unit, dehumidifiers, and heating, such as a fire or a radiator. If a door is left open or the diffuser is kept in an open place it will reduce the fragrance levels in the room. Likewise, if the diffuser is kept in a closed room or a smaller space, the levels of fragrance will be higher.

It's best not to re-use the reeds if you wish to use a different scent. Mixing the scents could cause an undesirable smell.

Due to popular demand, we are excited to share that we will soon be selling diffuser refills, so you can reduce the cost of enjoying your chosen fragrance, both financially and environmentally. Keep an eye on our website or Instagram page to be the first to know when we have these in stock.

In Conclusion

There you have it. Reed diffusers offer you a practical, yet stylish, option to fragrance your home 24/7.

Our fibre reed diffusers are easy to use and last 2-3 months. You can be sure your home will be sweetly scented, without having to watch an open flame, or plug in a diffuser.

Get Creative With Soy Wax Melts

Get creative and make your own fusion of delightful scents. Choose a couple of wax melts and burn them together.

How To Use Soy Wax Melts

Wax melts can be used in an electric wax burner or in a tea light wax burner.

Electric Wax Burner

Place your chosen melt onto the dish of the burner and simply switch the burner to heat. The benefits of an electric burner are that they don't use a flame, so are a safe option around children and dogs.

You may find the scent of a wax melt using an electric burner is not as strong.

Tea Lights

Wax melts can be placed onto ceramic, glass, or metal burners. The dish sits on top of the flame, place your chosen soy wax melt in the dish, light the flame and burn.

How To Remove Wax Melts From a Wax Burner

In both an electric burner and a tea light dish, the wax won't disappear over time as candle wax would. The wax will, however, lose its scent and will need replacing.

Removing the wax from a burner is easy. You have a couple of options, you can either…

  • Heat the old wax for around 1 minute, after this time it should slip off the dish.
  • Completely melt the wax then absorb the wax off the dish using cotton pads.
  • When the wax has hardened, place it into the fridge for 15 minutes. The cold should shrink the wax and then it should be easy to remove.

In Conclusion

Bambu Candles wax melts are made from eco soy wax, they come in biodegradable packaging, and are available in a range of luxury scents.

You can get creative and combine fragrances. Choose a couple of your favourite scents and burn them together, making a truly unique smell for your home.

Wax melts can be burned in an electric burner or in a tea light burner. Over time the wax will remain but the fragrance will disappear. Once the fragrance has gone the wax can be easily removed using either heat or cold methods.

Always follow the instructions and guidance that accompanies your burner.

How To Choose The Right Scented Candle Online

20th March 2020 Written by Rebekah Louise a women's health and wellness freelance writer

Struggling to choose which candle or scent to buy when shopping online?

It can be difficult to know which scent to pick. Often you're faced with a range of scents and fancy names that you've never heard of.

In this post we're going to provide an online shopping guide so you can confidently choose your perfect scented candle, diffuser, or room spray.

Things to Consider When Choosing a Scent

Which Room Are You Buying For?

Selecting the room and the atmosphere you want to create is a good starting point as this directs and simplifies your choices.

If you're buying a candle for your bedroom you may want a warm, comforting fragrance. For your bathroom, you may prefer a fresh scent, and a fruity smell in your kitchen.

What Is It That You're Trying to Achieve When Buying a New Scent?

Scents evoke memories, thoughts, and feelings. A scent can give a room it's identity.

What experience would you like your family, friends, or visitors to have when they're in your home?

Perhaps on arrival, you'd like to greet your guests with a fresh, light, and floral fragrance. Or when they visit your bathroom you may want them to feel as though they're entering a spa.

Is it a special time of the year? At Christmastime, you may wish to delight in warming fragrances, such as cinnamon or red berries. In the summer, you may prefer a fragrance that reminds you of the beach.

What Scents Do You Like?

Make a list of the scents you like. Do you tend to favour spices, fruits, flowers, or chocolate?

Do you like strong or lighter fragrances? Perhaps you like the scent of your aftershave or perfume, these can direct you to the types of smells you enjoy.

It's okay to mix and match scents across your home. The fragrance you choose for your living room may be different from the one you place in your hall and kitchen.

Candles, Reed Diffusers, & Room Sprays

Every candle at Bambu is handmade using 100% natural soy wax, therefore, our candles will burn 50% longer than paraffin candles, ensuring whichever scent you choose it will last for longer.

Room sprays are a great way of creating a wonderful fragrance in a room quickly. Perhaps you have a last-minute guest arriving and you wish to freshen up your home, or you'd like to get rid of an odour.

Reed diffusers not only provide a long-lasting fragrance, but they also look luxurious in your home.

Reed diffusers and room sprays are a lovely way of enjoying the scents without having an open flame, perfect if you've got children or pets running around.

Buying a Scent for a Gift

It's hard enough choosing a scent for yourself, but what about buying a fragrance for a loved one.

First of all, think about the types of scents they enjoy. Do they love chocolate, the smell of the sea, or particular fruits? Do they enjoy a day at the spa, or have a favourite perfume or aftershave they wear?

Bambu Candles offer beautifully wrapped gift sets which include a room spray and a candle.

The Best Home Summer Scents of 2020 and How They Relate to Your Personality

5th March 2020 Written by Sarah Hall

Summer is just around the corner so let's explore the summer scents that will keep your home smelling fresh and inviting. Whether you want to remind yourself of your favourite holiday or freshen up your home for guests, there are so many options out there this summer.

There is research to suggest that particular fragrances are related to different personality profiles. What is the best summer scent for your personality type? We have the low down on the latest summer aromas that will transform your home.

Black Pomegranate Reed Diffuser.

Pomegranate

Pomegranate is the fruit of a shrub that typically grows in Asia, The Middle East and Mediterranean. It features prominently in Greek mythology as the fruit Persephone consumed in underworld. This caused the changing of the seasons and so the pomegranate has a connection to spring and summer in Greek mythology.

The pomegranate has also been seen as a symbol of fertility and love in many religious cultures around the world such as Judaism, Christianity, Buddhism and Islam. When the fruit is consumed it also has many health benefits.

Pomegranate is an invigorating summer scent that is perfect for those hot days. It will keep your home smelling crisp and take you on a journey to an exotic place. Pomegranate is a great home fragrance for those with creative and romantic personalities. It suits those who are feminine, artistic and sensual. It also makes a great wedding or new home gift as it symbolises fertility.

Our luxury black pomegranate summer scent has floral heart notes with base notes of smoky wood. It is available in a room spray or reed diffuser.

Doctor Alan R Hirsch did several studies into the connection between perfume types and personality. He found that those who like floral heart note scents such as this one are outgoing and friendly.

Sage and Sea Salt

Sage is a herb which grows in the Mediterranean region. It is used to add flavour to many dishes and is botanically closely related to oregano and mint. It has been used in historic herbal healing due to its strong antibacterial, antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties. On its own, sage has a pungent smell which is said to improve memory.

Sage has a woody scent which suits those who like to spend time outdoors or have an affinity with nature. It is great for a relaxed, bohemian household and makes a lovely summer scent.

Our room spray and scented candle combines the woody elements of sage with sea salt to bring you a fragrance that is reminiscent of the English seaside. Spray around the house to remind yourself of that scenic seaside holiday and create a relaxing atmosphere. Research into perfume types and personality has found that those who like coastal scents are typically laid back free thinkers.

Lime, Basil and Mandarin

The lime fruit is commonly grown in areas such as Italy, Mexico and the Caribbean. The mandarin fruit is a sub species of orange and grown in Italy, China and Asia. Lime and Mandarin essential oil has been widely used in aromatherapy and herbal medicine due to its antiseptic and antibacterial qualities. Basil is a well-known peppery herb used in Italian cuisine.

The combination of these ingredients results in a citrus home fragrance that will remind you of the Mediterranean. If you've ever been to Italy, this is a classic summer scent. Let the aroma take you back to relaxing on a balcony with great food, wine and a picturesque view of the Italian countryside.

Citrus fragrances are great to add a bit of spice to your home. Personalities who like citrus are dynamic leaders and don't take any nonsense. Citrus personalities like to have fun and are very adventurous. They never stop and are always moving onto the next activity or challenge. Take charge with our lime, basil and mandarin luxury room spray or scented candle.

Amalfi Coast

A refreshing summer scent, this fragrance is reminiscent of the Amalfi coast in Italy with its breath-taking scenery. This unique aroma will take your home on a journey to the coast. With base notes of Amber and Sandalwood this fragrance has depth and a woody undertone to it. This gives it a grounded and slightly masculine edge.

Those who like woody scents are often are bold and daring. They go after what they want and strive to achieve their goals. Our Amalfi Coast fragrance is available as a reed diffuser and candle.

What options are available to add fragrance to my home?

Reed diffusers

One way to easily add a long lasting fragrance to your home is with a reed diffuser. Reed diffusers contain fragrance oil in a glass container. The reeds are placed into the glass container to slowly absorb the fragrance. The fragrance then evaporates off the reeds and into the air of your home.

The good thing about reed diffusers is they are low maintenance and easily refilled. They are also safe to leave unattended unlike scented candles which require supervision.

Room Sprays

Room sprays are a great way to add a burst of freshness and keep on the side for emergencies. Our sprays contain a hand pump which is more environmentally friendly. We avoid manufacturing aerosol sprays because they contain chemicals which are harmful to the planet.

Our room sprays are decanted into a luxury glass bottle which is recyclable and very decorative to keep on your bathroom side or on your bedside table.

Scented Candles

Scented candles add fragrance to your home and provide a nice ambience in the evenings. Candles can create a relaxing atmosphere for you to unwind after a long day at work or with the children. The fragrance releases slowly and lingers long after you have put out your candle.

All our candles are handmade from soy wax which is made from soy beans. This is more environmentally friendly than paraffin candles and gives a longer burning time. Soy wax is biodegradable and a renewable energy source. It also does not create soot residue on walls or nearby furniture like traditional candles.

Soy Wax Candles vs Paraffin Candles

6th February 2020 Written by Rebekah Louise a women's health and wellness freelance writer

Did you know that the contents of your candle may have a negative impact on your home, your health, and the environment? Candles are often made from paraffin. Paraffin contains chemicals and toxins which can be harmful if inhaled. Soy wax is a vegetable wax that comes from soybean oil. Soy wax is a natural and renewable resource which is biodegradable and has both environmental and health benefits.

Environmental Benefits of Soy Wax

Soy wax candles are carbon-neutral and burn cleaner than paraffin candles, therefore, toxins are not released into the air when they are lit. This means that it has little impact on the environment and on our health, and is ideal to use whilst pregnant, if you have children, or pets. Paraffin candles, however, release toxins such as carcinogens and pollutants, which may cause health problems.

As our candles are made with 100% natural soy wax, they are petro-carbon soot free, meaning that your curtains, fabrics, walls, and ceilings won't be stained over time after burning your candle. Paraffin candles do produce perto-carbon soot which, over time, may make your curtains, walls, carpets, and ceiling turn black.

Additional Benefits of Soy Wax Candles

Soy wax has a lower burning point than paraffin. If you buy a soy wax candle, it will last around 50% longer than a paraffin candle. This makes soy wax candles more cost effective to buy.

After using a paraffin candle, it takes time to wash away the wax from the candle tin. With soy wax candles, it's easy to remove the wax by using warm, soapy water. The tin can then be reused.
